Review

After recently reviewing their live album, I realized that I had not reviewed this album a couple of years ago. Varathron are a pretty consistent black metal force, but this album is way up there. The overall atmosphere is aggressive and dark throughout, sometimes more on the melancholic side with a hint of doom. They somehow managed to seamlessly blend epic, symphonic and folkish elements without going over the top and that makes for a very unique sound that really catches the listener's attention and holds on to it. I really like the vocals here, harsh but melodic and full of emotion, matching the music perfectly. This is an album that's very hard to describe with words as it is really something you need to experience, so... chop chop!
