Anxiously waiting for the release of The Antichrist, I picked up this 7" which includes a cover of Metallica's "Whiplash" on one side, and a live version of "The Final Curtain" from the All Hell Breaks Loose album. If I am not mistaken, the cover of "Whiplash" is included on the North American version of All Hell..., something I wasn't able to verify since I have the 2 CD version. Well, this cover simply blows the original away. Played better, faster, and more aggressive, and with better vocals than on Kill 'em All (as much as I love that album, the vocals were a little bit weak.) Excellent job by Destruction here. Made me nostalgic and I took my Kill 'em All album out for a few spins. The second side contains the live version of "The Final Curtain", played so tight and without much background noise that at some points I was wondering if it was really live - well, it is. Anyway, a good choice as a second song on this 7". Those who already have "Whiplash" on the CD probably shouldn't bother getting this, but for others, if you've got a turntable, get it while you can (it's limited.) You won't mind getting up to change sides or replay the same song over and over on this one! ;) |
